About Levitra
While not as well-known as other medicines in the ED treatment family, like Viagra and Sildenafil, Levitra is useful because it can be longer acting. This means the effects may be noticeable for hours after taking a dose.
Levitra is the brand name of the generic medicine Vardenafil. Both medicines contain the same active ingredient. Although Vardenafil is cheaper to buy, some men prefer to take the brand that they’re familiar with.
There are three strengths of the tablets available: 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg. There is also a 10mg orodispersible version that dissolves on your tongue.
How does Levitra work?
It works in the same way as other medicines that treat erectile dysfunction, like Viagra. It belongs to a family of medicines called PDE5 inhibitors. Levitra works by opening blood vessels and increasing blood flow into the tissue of the penis. This helps men get and maintain an erection.
It does not have an impact on libido, only your ability to get and maintain an erection when sexually aroused.
How long does Levitra last?
The effects of Levitra can last up to four or five hours after taking a dose.
How to make Levitra more effective
Most men will notice a firmer and longer-lasting erection. It can also work quicker than some other ED medicines. Ideally, you shouldn’t take a dose with a high-fat meal because it can delay the effect of the tablet. Drinking alcohol can make it harder to get an erection so should be avoided when taking Levitra.
If Levitra doesn’t work for you the first time around, you should try it again on a different occasion. Often, ED medicines aren’t effective at first but are found to be more effective when tried on another occasion. Doctors often advise trying erectile dysfunction medicines eight separate times before trying a different treatment.
If the treatment does not work, ask our doctors (or your GP), whether it would be appropriate to increase the dose. Alternatively, they may recommend another treatment.
What are the alternative treatments to Levitra?
If you find Levitra is not effective for you, there are several other ED medicines you can try. This includes Viagra, Tadalafil, Spedra, and Vitaros Cream. Psychological treatments like cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and sex therapy can be useful for some men.

Is Levitra better than Viagra?
Which medicine is best at treating ED is different for different men. Some men may find Viagra helps them to get an erection, while other men may find Levitra is better for them. Most men start with Viagra and, if they find it ineffective, they try Levitra instead. One difference is that Levitra has an orodispersible version that dissolves on the tongue. Viagra is only available as tablets. Some men prefer an orodispersible version.
Can you take Levitra everyday?
This medicine is not designed to be used everyday. If you require an ED medicine for everyday use, you should consider Cialis. Low doses of Cialis can be taken daily to help you get and maintain an erection at any time.
How long does it take for Levitra to work?
You should notice an effect around 30-60 minutes after taking a dose. The effect might be slower if you take your dose with a high-fat meal.
How long does Levitra last after you take it?
It has been shown to stay in the bloodstream for up to 12 hours after taking the dose, but most men notice effects for around 6 hours after.
How much does Levitra cost?
It can be bought from around £3 per tablet. The cheapest option starts at £23.45 for the 5mg tablets. The cheapest option for Levitra 10mg is £29.65 for a pack of 4 tablets.
Can Levitra be taken with food?
You can take your dose with or without food but a heavy or high-fat meal can slow down how quickly the tablets work. You should not drink grapefruit juice when you take this medicine because it can affect how the tablets work. You can drink alcohol with the tablets, but alcohol can make it harder to get an erection.
Can I buy Levitra over the counter?
You cannot buy Levitra in the UK over the counter because it is a prescription-only medicine. Our doctors can prescribe it online and our pharmacy team can then send the medicine to your address. As part of your order, you must complete an online medical questionnaire. This allows our doctors to check it is suitable for you to take.
Levitra Side Effects
With any medication you take, there is always a risk of side effects occurring. Some are more common than others, and often side effects may subside with the regular usage of the medicine. If the side effects do not subside, you should report them to us, or to your GP.
Common side effects include headaches, indigestion, nausea, flushing, and a stuffy and runny nose. Some men may also experience dizziness, nose bleeds and muscle pain as side effects.
There can be some serious, but rare, side effects. If you experience any severe side effects, consult your doctor immediately. This includes any problems with your vision or a prolonged erection that last an unusually long time. If you have an erection for longer than 2 hours, you should seek emergency medical attention immediately.
Before taking any medication, it is important to read the Patient Information Leaflet.
How to take Levitra
One tablet should be taken about 30-60 minutes before sexual activity. The effects can last between 4-6 hours. Never take more than one Levitra 20mg tablet within 24 hours. This medicine only works when you are sexually stimulated.
A dose should not be taken with more than one or two units of alcohol, as it may be less effective. Although it is less prone than Viagra to being affected by food and alcohol, you should try to avoid high-fat meals when taking Levitra. Taking it with a high-fat meal may cause it to take longer to work.
When not to take Levitra
It is not suitable for everyone to take. Men who are allergic to Vardenafil or any of the other ingredients in the tablets should not take them. Anyone who has recently had a stroke or heart attack is not suitable to take ED medication. Men with very low blood pressure should not take this medication.
Levitra can also be unsuitable for people with other conditions to take.
Drug interactions with Levitra
Certain medicines should not be taken with Levitra. This includes medicines called nitrates used to treat angina, like GTN spray and isosorbide mononitrate. Medicines used to treat arrhythmias such as sotalol and amiodarone should also not be used with Levitra. Certain alpha blockers are also unsuitable.
